Claimed to be Ivan IV's surviving son, Tsarevich Dmitry, who had died in Uglich. He took the Moscow throne and was crowned tsar in 1605, but was killed in a coup in May 1606. His identification with Grigory Otrepyev is widespread in historical writing, although it is not beyond dispute.
